Burglars Use Slingshot To Break Into San Francisco Antique Store; Make Bicycle-Vehicle Getaway

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— Four burglars wearing ski masks broke through a front window at Stuff when one of them used a slingshot on the San Francisco store early Wednesday morning, according to police.

Stuff, a collectibles, vintage furniture and antique store located at 150 Valencia Street, lost an undisclosed amount in valuables after six glass cases were broken into.

The burglary was caught on surveillance video and happened at around 4:20 a.m. Officers arrived around 10 minutes later after receiving an automated call and conducted a walk through.

"Upon reviewing surveillance video, a suspect on a bicycle that's yellow in color actually had a slingshot, broke out the front glass and then three other suspects that were in a black truck joined in," said SFPD spokesman Albie Esparza.

Esparza said the suspect who used the slingshot fled on his bike and three others fled in the black truck.

"What I find interesting from watching the surveillance video is that they were utilizing people on the streets as lookouts so that they were able to do their work," said store owner James Spinello.

The video shows the suspects quickly running in, ransacking items, including jewelry and running back out within five minutes time.

"They were in and out fast," said Spinello.

Three vendors rent space from the store. One of the vendors said he lost about $5,000 in the burglary. He suspected the robbers weren't exactly "professional" considering some of the items like sterling silver that were left behind.

No description or other suspect information was provided by police. The owner and vendors are still calculating the total loss.
