Road Improvement In Brentwood Promises Traffic Relief, Economic Boost
BRENTWOOD (KCBS)--- A dusty corner off Highway 4 in Brentwood attracted some high level attention Monday. Some elected leaders were there to celebrate a project they say will produce jobs and money for the region.
They met at the corner of SR 4 and Sand Creek Road in Brentwood in an area strewn with hay and dirt—familiar surroundings for Mayor Bob Taylor. He said when he first moved to Brentwood there were 1,800 people. Now the population exceeds 50,000, and nearby Antioch has 90,000. Mayor Taylor said a road construction project will relieve traffic congestion, while boosting the economy in east Contra Costa County.
KCBS' Dave Padilla Reports:
"I think economically they're talking around 6 or 700 jobs over the next two and a half years, which is quite a boon," he said.
Taylor was joined by Congressman Jerry McNerney, Assemblymembers Joan Buchanan and Susan Bonilla and State Senator Mark DeSaulnier.
This is a 3.2 mile road project that is expected to increase the flow of traffic in one of the fastest growing regions of the Bay Area.
