Ridesharing Company Uber Offering On Demand Weddings During San Francisco Pride Weekend

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- After disrupting the taxi business in San Francisco and in cities throughout the world, ridesharing company Uber is entering the marriage business in honor of the city's LGBT pride celebration.

According to a blog post from Uber posted Thursday, users in San Francisco will have the opportunity to get married on demand Saturday afternoon. The service will provide all the elements for the ceremony, including an on-site notary to obtain a marriage license. Flowers, dessert, champagne and a violinist will also be provided.

Vows will also be provided, but couples can also use their own for the ceremony.

"Your wedding can be as large or as intimate as you'd like, so let your family and friends know if you intend to request," Uber said.

The ridesharing firm said couples may have to wait 45 minutes to an hour after putting in a request for their ceremony to take place. Uber said demand could be high and asked couples to retry their request if they don't get through.

After the nuptials, Uber will also provide couples flights and accommodations for their honeymoons.

Uber customers who request a wedding will not be charged for the service or the honeymoon. Couples will be required to provide the documents necessary to receive a marriage license, which include photo ID.
