Riders Leave Daly City For AIDS/LifeCycle
DALY CITY (KCBS) – More than 2,200 cyclists are headed to Los Angeles, part of the annual AIDS/LifeCycle ride, raising funds for the fight against AIDS and HIV.
Neil Giuliano, head of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, said the goal is to raise $11 million this year.
"HIV and AIDS is not over. We still have a lot of awareness to do," Giuliano said. "This event is going to raise very important funds for the programs and services of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. It's great to have this much support."
The riders departed on Sunday from the Cow Palace in Daly City, heading for the first stop in the week-long ride, Santa Cruz.
Greg Sroda, Director of AIDS/LifeCycle, said the event is an important part of his life.

"It's become this part of my life and part of my entire community of friends, family and everyone are involved in this ride now so it's really special to me," said Sroda.
Riders from 44 states and 16 nations are pedaling the 550 miles to Los Angeles, with the help of hundreds of volunteers along the way.
