Richmond Teen Found Guilty In Church Shooting
RICHMOND (CBS / AP) -- A Richmond teen is facing 40 years to life in prison after being convicted for a gang-related shooting of two people during a Valentine's Day church service.
The Contra Costa Times reports that a jury found 19-year-old Marcel Buggs guilty Friday of three counts of attempted murder, commercial burglary, committing a felony for the benefit of a gang and numerous enhancements.
Prosecutors say Buggs shot and wounded two brothers inside New Gethsemane Church of God in Christ in 2010. They say Buggs intended to hit the brothers' older sibling, who was in a rival gang.
Buggs' attorney said he was not a gang member, and was misidentified because of a rap video on YouTube in which Buggs brandished a gun and rapped about harming North Richmond residents.
