Restaurant Checkout App MyCheck Expands To Bay Area; Customers Can Dine And Dash, Pay Bill On Smartphone

(CBS SF) -- Restaurant diners in the Bay Area may soon be able to skip out without waiting for the check with the expansion of an app that allows customers to dine and dash while paying the bill on their smartphone.

MyCheck is a restaurant payment service launched in 2011 which allows diners to check themselves out of a restaurant or bar without waiting for the check or the credit card slip.

The Israel-based firm announced Tuesday it was expanding its presence to the San Francisco Bay Area and Austin, Texas to build upon current operations in the New York City, Brazil, UK and Israel.

In May, MyCheck partnered with PayPal to allow diners to view, split and pay the bill from a smartphone without waiting for the server to bring the check to the table.

The MyCheck technology will roll out initially at three restaurants in the Bay Area: 25 Lusk in San Francisco, Old Port Lobster House in San Jose, and Tarpy's Roadhouse Grill in Monterey. The company said it is in negotiations with dozens of other Bay Area restaurants to adopt the checkout technology.

The app helps restaurants increase their table turn rates as servers and diners are spared the lengthy exercise of asking for, retrieving, paying and signing the bill.

CEO Tal Zvi Nathaniel told TechCrunch that on average, MyCheck saves between three to 10 minutes per table, while increasing tips by 18%.

MyCheck also offers its checkout technology directly to restaurants so the venues can control the payment process completely in house.
