Residents Spot Mountain Lion In San Mateo County Neighborhood
LOS TRANCOS WOODS (CBS SF) -- Residents spotted a mountain lion in Los Trancos Woods on Friday evening, San Mateo County emergency officials said.
The sighting was at about 6:30 p.m. in the vicinity of the 100 block of Carmel Avenue in Los Trancos Woods, according to the San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services.
Anyone who sees a mountain lion is advised not to approach it, especially if the animal is seen feeding or with offspring.
Mountain lions tend to avoid confrontation with humans, county officials said.
To avoid running into the animals, people are advised not to go hiking or jogging at dawn, dusk or at night and to closely watch small children.
Anyone who comes face to face with a mountain lion is advised to stay put, face the animal, make noise, throw rocks and try to appear bigger by waving their arms.
