Reports Of Gunshots Place Alameda Schools On Lockdown
ALAMEDA (CBS SF) - Two Alameda schools were briefly placed on lockdown Wednesday morning after someone reported gunfire, an Alameda police officer said.
Around 8 a.m., someone called police and said shots had been fired at Island High School, located at 1900 Third St., Alameda police Officer E. Mrak said.
The caller then said the shooting actually occurred about half a mile away near Webster Street and Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway, Mrak said.
Police responded to both locations and ordered staff and students at Island High School and Ruby Bridges Elementary School, located at 351 Jack London Ave., to shelter in place, Mrak said.
Police were not able to corroborate the report of gunfire, and the lockdowns were lifted around 9 a.m., she said.
No injuries were reported.
As of 10 a.m., police remained in both areas mentioned by the caller and were continuing to investigate the report, Mrak said.
