Report Reveals Personal Wealth Of Gov. Brown
SACRAMENTO (AP) -- Financial disclosure forms released Thursday show Gov. Jerry Brown and his wife, former Gap Inc. executive Anne Gust Brown, have real estate and stock holdings potentially worth millions of dollars.
The Browns' investments include stock in Gap, Jack in the Box, and the medical office software business Health Fusion Inc., according to a statement of economic interest filed with the state Fair Political Practices Commission. Gust Brown is listed as a former board member of Jack in the Box.
They hold investments in at least two real estate businesses. Gust Brown is listed as a member of 4395 Piedmont, and the governor is a member of Madison Park Holdings Inc. Both investments are valued between $100,000 and $1 million.
The Browns also collect interest income between $10,001 and $100,000 from Round Two Investment Partners in Beverly Hills. California's first family also owns a home in the Oakland Hills. They currently live in Sacramento during the week and rent a midtown loft.
The state's second-in-command, Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, also is worth millions from his wine business and the family trust of his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom. All state elected officials are required to file disclosure forms in part to disclose any potential conflicts of interest.
Newsom is president of Airelle Wines Inc. and a partner in Villa Encinal Partners LP, the companies behind PlumpJack and Cade wineries in Napa Valley. According to his financial statement, he collected over $200,000 in income from the wineries last year.
His wife's trust is worth over $1 million and she collected over $100,000 in income from that trust last year, according to the report. Besides stock holdings in power producer Calpine Corp., Microsoft and Verizon Communications, the trust invests between $100,000 and $1 million in the Brazilian oil firm Petroleo Brasileiro.
Siebel Newsom, an actress and filmmaker, also reported income from NBC Universal and her film production company Girls' Club Entertainment LLC. The couple received a number of gifts last year including two Bulgari ties, a Louis Vitton pen and various tickets.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Kamala Harris reported a home in Oakland valued at between $100,001 and $1 million that she inherited from her late mother. She also reported gifts including a $299 watch from the consul general of Japan, a $78 book from the consul general of India, and flowers from a federal judge, a state appellate justice and the dean of the University of California Hastings College of the Law, where she obtained her law degree.
Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones reported $1,640 in gifts, most while he was a state assemblyman running for the statewide office. They include $634 in passes to the state fair and carnival rides and $675 from attorneys and an attorneys' association.
