OAKLAND (CBS SF) - The all-clear has been given at Oakland's Holy Names University Thursday afternoon after someone reported seeing an armed person on campus earlier Thursday, university officials said.

A message posted on the school's website shortly after 2 p.m.  stated that "HNU has received notice from the Oakland Police Department that  the campus is secure and no longer under lockdown."

Hundreds of students and faculty members were evacuated from the campus, located at 3500 Mountain Blvd., after someone called police at 10:30 a.m. to report a "disheveled" male dressed in a business suit with a gun in is waistband who had asked to use a restroom in a school building, Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said.

Officers searched about 20 buildings on campus, Watson said.

"We are searching not only the unoccupied buildings, but are escorting the people from the occupied buildings to where it is safe, until we can verify if this person is still on campus," Watson said.

Many students and professors who were evacuated from the campus headed home, she said.

Some students who live on campus returned to their dormitories, according to a residence hall staff member, who said the suspicious person was spotted at Hester Hall.

Armed SWAT officers and other police officers were participated in the search of the campus, located at 3500 Mountain Blvd.
