Report: Former San Francisco 49er Ray McDonald Won't Face Charges Over December Sexual Assault Allegations
SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) – Former San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Ray McDonald will reportedly not be charged regarding a December sexual assault allegation against him.
The news was first reported by NFL Network and NFL.com national insider Ian Rapoport on Twitter.
It was on December 17 when the San Jose Police Department announced they were investigating an alleged incident involving McDonald. An area hospital had notified police the day before that a woman was seeking treatment, and police said the victim said she was possibly sexually assaulted.
Detectives served a search warrant and searched the San Jose home of McDonald.
Rapoport reports that the agent for McDonald, Tom Condon, has sent a letter to all NFL teams, saying McDonald's counsel was told the news, despite the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office not formally announcing its intentions. McDonald is currently a free agent.
McDonald was released by the 49ers following this latest allegation. At the time, 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said McDonald had shown "a pattern of poor behavior."
McDonald had off-field troubles throughout the 2014-15 campaign. In November, the DA's office declined to file charges against the defensive lineman in a domestic violence investigation stemming from an incident on August 31 at his home.
