Report Claims Cleaner Cars Will Fuel Economic Growth In California
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Improving fuel efficiency in California vehicles by four to six percent could create hundreds of thousands of new jobs in the state, according to a nonprofit policy research organization.

"When you have fuel economy, essentially consumers save money. That money that they save goes back into the economy," said Noel Perry, founder of Next Ten.
A report released Tuesday by his organization suggested the increase in disposable income and available capital from higher fuel efficiency standards could lead to more than 236,000 new jobs a year by 2025 in all sectors of the economy.
"We're not specifically talking about green jobs. This is all types of jobs that happen when a dollar gets multiplied within the economy because consumers save it," Perry said.
The study results found tougher vehicle emissions standards being considered by the California Air Resources Board for model years 2017 through 2025 could benefit retail and service industries.
