Repairmen Accused Of Stealing From Caltrain Ticket Machines
REDWOOD CITY (CBS/AP) -- Two transit repairmen accused of stealing more than $40,000 from Caltrain ticket machines have been ordered to stand trial on embezzlement and grand theft charges.
A judge ruled at the close of a preliminary hearing on Wednesday that there was sufficient evidence for the case against 60-year-old Orvilla Taylor and 53-year-old Herbert Todd to proceed to trial.
Authorities say the San Mateo County Transit District employees stole the money on 12 separate occasions in 2010 from broken ticket machines they had brought in to repair.
Caltrain discovered money was missing during an internal audit.
The men are facing more than a dozen charges each of embezzlement and grand theft. They have pleaded not guilty.
The two were due back in court on Oct. 3.
