Redwood City Metal Recycling Facility Had Been Issued Violation For Previous Fire
REDWOOD CITY (KCBS) — A Redwood City metal recycling facility that caught fire on Sunday received a public nuisance violation for a similar incident, according to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.
Lisa Fasano of the district said Sims Metal Management was issued the violation in April 2007 for a small fire that took place at the facility.

Sunday's fire burned for several hours and resulted in a shelter-in-place order for parts of three Bay Area counties.
Fasano said the agency has received dozens of complaints about the smoke and are in the process of gathering information from monitoring equipment. "We'll be taking our filtered data and looking at that over the course of the next several days," Fasano told KCBS.
In addition, the Environmental Protection Agency will also be discussing possible action to see if any of the water that was used to fight the water was contaminated by heavy metals and entered San Francisco Bay, which was the focus of an EPA crackdown in 2012.
Sims has since issued a written statement saying that they take incidents of this nature seriously and will continue to take every possible measure to limit the risk of incidents of this type.
