Reds Sign Jilted Giant Renteria To 1-Year, $3M Deal
CINCINNATI, Ohio (CBS) -- The Cincinnati Reds have reportedly signed jilted San Francisco Giants shortstop Edgar Renteria, the 2010 World Series MVP.
ESPN reported Thursday that the deal is for one year and worth around $3 million with an incentive package.
Renteria was named the MVP of this past World Series as San Francisco defeated Texas for the first championship for the Giants in 56 years.
His three-run home run in Game 5 accounted for all of the Giants' offense in a 3-1 win, which clinched the series for the club for the first time since the team moved to San Francisco after the 1957 season. He was named MVP after the game as he went 7-for-17 with two home runs and six RBI in the Fall Classic.
Renteria also had he game-winning hit in the 11th inning of Game 7 in the 1997 World Series for the Florida Marlins.
In the regular season, he appeared in just 72 games, a career low, and batted .276 with three home runs and 22 RBI.
Over his 15-year career, he has batted .287 with 135 home runs and 887 RBI over 2,056 games with Florida, St. Louis, Boston, Atlanta, Detroit and San Francisco.
