Recently Arrived Dell Expanding Quickly In Santa Clara
SANTA CLARA (KCBS) – In an effort to increase its influence in the rapidly changing tech industry, Dell is expanding its presence in Silicon Valley by adding 600 employees to its research and development center in Santa Clara.
It was just last October that Dell opened its first building in Silicon Valley on Great American Parkway, just south of Highway 237. Santa Clara Mayor Jamie Matthews said that he is surprised that Dell is already adding to its workforce.
KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:
"They were excited about coming in and consolidating all of their operations here in Santa Clara in the hub of Silicon Valley," said Matthews. "When we were there cutting the ribbon just a few months ago with Michael Dell and the governor of the state of California, they talked about expansion at that time. Who knew it would come so soon!"
At that ribbon cutting founder Michael Dell said that they eventually plan to have 1,500 employees in the location.
"We're here because of the skills and the talent here – the highly skilled workforce that will enable Dell to continue to innovate and take risks and drive the new developments in our business," said Dell.
Dell employees in Santa Clara are working on storage and cloud computing development, as well as network design.
