Recent Showers Do Little To Lessen Fears As Fire Season Begins
NAPA (CBS SF) - CalFire has signaled the official start of fire season in Marin, Sonoma, Napa, Yolo and Solano counties, calling attention to the need for residents to remain vigilant when living amidst dry brush in the warm weather months.
"We've had a little bit of rain last week and even coming into (Monday), acknowledged CalFire spokesman, Daniel Berlant. "Conditions are still tinder dry and the little bit of rain that we're expecting to see this week is not going to be enough to really push us back significantly and really make a dent in the fire season."
In the North Bay, all CalFire stations now have extra staffing and rigs. Homeowners whose property abuts open space should create 100 ft. of defensible space around their property.
