Recent College Grad Shot, Killed After Oakland Fender-Bender
OAKLAND (CBS SF) - An Emeryville man was fatally shot in North Oakland late Wednesday, an hour before his 23rd birthday, after getting into a confrontation with two suspects who had rear-ended his car.
Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said the victim, identified by family as Aya Nakano, had recently graduated from the University of Oregon and was driving back to his Emeryville home after playing basketball with friends at a UC Berkeley gym when the collision occurred about 11 p.m.
Nakano then "did the right thing" and turned left onto southbound Market Street then pulled over at a bus stop in the 5800 block of Market, near ASA Liquors, Watson said.
He pulled over to exchange information when he was shot by one of the two suspects, who had been driving in a silver sedan. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident took place just four blocks from Nakano's house.
Police don't believe that Nakano, who would have turned 23 Thursday, knew the suspects prior to the collision.
Nakano's uncle, Troy, held back tears as he posted information in the neighborhood about a $5,000 reward for information in his murder.
"Please, please help us. I mean these people, they're not allowed to be in the streets like this and they could hurt your family member too. That's not something I want to see for anybody."
His uncle said his nephew was not confrontational and was the comedian amongst his friends.
Nakano grew up in San Mateo went to college in Oregon and came back to Emeryville to live with his family until he found a way to get his dream job in sports management.

Investigators spent all night talking to witnesses who said that two suspects took off in the car southbound on Market. There is also surveillance cameras at the intersection that may give police a glimpse of what went on.
The suspects' vehicle is described as a newer-model four-door silver sedan, according to Watson.
Police have not released a description of the suspects.
