Deputies kill suspect who shot elderly parents in Rancho Cordova home, sheriff says
RANCHO CORDOVA – Three people have died, including a suspect shot by law enforcement officers, after a standoff in Rancho Cordova early Thursday morning.
The suspect had shot and killed his elderly parents before being shot by two SWAT deputies, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies responded to the 3300 block of Hartselle Way when they got a call from a woman inside a home around 1:15 a.m. The woman said she had been shot.
First responders found that woman at the doorway. She was soon pronounced dead, the sheriff's office said. Another man was also found dead inside the home.
The sheriff's office said that after multiple attempts to get the suspect to surrender, he exited the home into the backyard while armed with a rifle around 4:15 a.m. That is when he was shot three times and killed.
Authorities identified the suspect as 38-year-old Thomas Konvalin. His parents were 69-year-old Marylou Konvalin and 72-year-old William Konvalin.
A motive for the double shooting has not yet been determined.
