Rain On Memorial Day In Bay Area Is Rare
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Bay Area residents have experienced a bit of history this Memorial Day Weekend, according to a Golden Gate Weather Services spokesman Jan Null.
Should rain sprinkle down Monday at some point, it will be the first time rainfall has hit the Bay Area on Memorial Day in 20 years, Null said.
On Memorial Day of 1993, 0.01 inches of rain fell, he said.
Since 1850, when rainfall records were first reported, it has rained on Memorial Day 16 times, or 10 percent, Null said.
Null said the last time any rain fell over the Memorial Day weekend was on Saturday, May 28, 2011, when 0.28 inches fell.
You have to go all the way back to 1932 for the last time it rained on all three days of the Memorial Day weekend, when a total of 0.54 inches of rain fell.
The rainiest day in Memorial Day weekend history was Sunday, May 27, 1990, when 1.42 inches of the wet stuff poured down on the Bay Area, Null said.
