Raiders Granted Extension To Reach Coliseum Sellout
ALAMEDA (CBS/AP) - The Oakland Raiders have been granted a 24-hour extension to sell out this weekend's game against Kansas City and avoid a local TV blackout.
The Raiders have had 11 straight home games at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum blacked out since last season's opener. Games need to be sold out 72 hours before kickoff to avoid a blackout in a 75-mile radius. The league often grants extensions if teams are close.
Oakland is averaging 41,153 fans a game this season, with a high of more than 48,000 for the home opener against St. Louis. The Raiders have had 80 of 124 regular-season home games blacked out since moving back from Los Angeles for the 1995 season.
Sunday's game against the longtime rival Chiefs has taken on added significance as it is the first time neither team has come into the meeting with a losing record since the 2002 season. The game is a matchup between the top two teams in the AFC West Division.
