'Quakes To Face Colorado As Next Playoff Foe
SAN JOSE (CBS / AP) -- The San Jose Earthquakes will be going east for their Eastern Conference final in the Major League Soccer playoffs, but not that far east.
Their next opponent was determined over the weekend when the Colorado Rapids advanced over the Columbus Crew in Columbus, Ohio.
Brian Carroll's penalty kick at the end of the fifth round sailed over the goal, giving the Rapids a 2-1 game win and a 3-2 aggregate goal victory.
The Earthquakes, led by October's MLS player of the month Chris Wondolowski, scored a 3-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls last Thursday to take a 3-2 aggregate win in the MLS Eastern Conference semifinal series and advance.
The Earthquakes will take on the Rapids in Commerce City, Colo., at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, televised by the Fox Soccer Channel.
The Earthquakes and Rapids met twice in the regular season, each winning 1-0 at home. Saturday's winner advances to the Nov. 21 MLS Cup in Toronto.
