'Quakes Beat Sounders 1-0
SANTA CLARA (CBS/AP) -- Walter Martinez scored his first MLS goal and the San Jose Earthquakes made it hold up for a 1-0 win against the Seattle Sounders on Saturday.
Martinez, a 31-year-old midfielder who joined San Jose prior to this season, broke open a scoreless match in the 48th minute. The former Honduran international collected a ball from teammate Steven Lenhart, cut inside Seattle defender DeAndre Yedlin and fired from 12 yards.
Sounders emergency goalkeeper Andrew Weber, who came on at halftime for injured starter Michael Gspurning, could not keep the ball from curling inside the far post.
Weber, a former Earthquake, joined Seattle on loan from Phoenix FC of the USL Professional Division earlier this week after veteran backup Marcus Hahnemann was ruled out due to a hamstring injury.
