Public Utilities Commission Releases Report On PG&E Fines
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The California Public Utilities Commission has released information on all the fines it has levied since 1999.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that a database released Saturday by the CPUC shows it has issued fines of $170.9 million over the past 11 years.
The release comes after questions were raised about the commission's willingness to issue penalties.
A review by the Chronicle earlier this month found that between 2004 and 2009, the CPUC did not impose a single fine against PG&E for violating natural gas safety laws, even though the company committed more infractions than California's other major pipeline operators combined.
The data released Saturday does not show any fines issued over PG&E's natural gas system, but it does show the utility was fined $6.5 million and ordered to pay $63.7 million in restitution over unrelated issues.
