Public Briefly Allowed Back Inside OPD Headquarters After Toilet Pipe Flooding Problem
OAKLAND (CBS SF) - After reopening briefly Wednesday morning, Oakland police headquarters has been closed to the public again until further notice because of water damage caused by a plumbing problem, a police spokeswoman said.
The toilet pipe problem occurred early Tuesday morning on the third floor of the building, located at 455 Seventh St. The first three floors sustained water damage, Officer Johnna Watson said.
The building was closed to the public on Tuesday as cleanup and repair crews responded. It reopened for a short time this morning, but "because of the work that is being done inside" to dry the building, it had to be closed again, Watson said.
Watson said employees are still able to enter and come to work.
She did not yet have details on the extent of the damage.
Vehicle release forms for towed cars will still be available, but at the Police Department's Eastmont substation at 2651 73rd Ave., which is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Watson said.
