Protesters Occupy San Jose Chase Bank, Demand Loan Modification
SAN JOSE (KCBS)— A Chase branch bank on Santa Clara Street in downtown San Jose was briefly occupied by about two dozen protesters Wednesday, demanding a loan modification for a customer.
72-year old Gloria Takla said Chase has refused to modify her underwater 2007 loan despite the fact that she made a $150,000 down payment.
"It was $2,500; way too much for me. I had put down $150,000 on the original loan. It was everything I had," Takla said.
KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:
Protest organizer David Sharples said Chase isn't doing what it should in helping people like Takla who are facing foreclosure.
"The big banks got bailed out with tax payer money and struggling home owners got left with foreclosure notices," Sharples said.
He added protesters are demanding that the big banks work with struggling homeowners to stay in their home, but that Chase has consistently refused to do loan modifications.
There was no immediate reaction from Chase.
