Protesters Disrupt UC Regents Meeting In Riverside
RIVERSIDE (CBS/AP) - Protesters have disrupted the University of California Board of Regents meeting being held at the Riverside campus.
University spokeswoman Kris Lovekin said protesters refused to heed the end of the 20-minute public comment period at the beginning of Thursday's meeting and continued to address the board.
Board Chairwoman Sherry Lansing then asked police to clear the room of protesters, and campus police formed a line inside the meeting room.
Lovekin said the board may continue the meeting in another room with news media present.
Students and other protesters angry over tuition increases due to state funding cutbacks have disrupted several recent board meetings. The board is scheduled to meet all day Thursday, but tuition is not on the agenda.
