Prosecutor Claims San Francisco Sheriff Mirkarimi Isolated Wife
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS / AP) -- A San Francisco prosecutor is alleging that Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi kept his wife isolated in their home after he physically abused her to prevent her from talking to the police.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Aguilar Tarchi made the allegation Monday in a motion arguing why a judge should allow video footage of a conversation Mirkarimi's wife had with a neighbor as evidence in the sheriff's Feb. 24 trial on misdemeanor domestic violence charges.
The motion said Lopez went to the neighbor when Mirkarimi was in the shower, 18 hours after he allegedly bruised her arm during an argument. Until that time, the sheriff "kept her silent, kept her from telling anyone, and kept her behind closed doors," Aguilar Tarchi wrote.
Mirkarimi defense lawyer attorney Lidia Stiglich calls the allegation absurd.
