Pro Sports Concussion Screening Now Used At More High School Games
OAKLAND (KCBS)— A concussion evaluation test already being used in professional sports is now more frequently used at high school sporting events. The test called IMPACT (Immediate Post Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) lasts about 20 minutes according to Mark Lovell from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Sports Medicine Concussion Program.

One issue is that high school athletes don't admit that they're suffering from concussion symptoms. If they get back in a game and get hit again, the consequences could be devastating.
"The medical community is really taking an interest in doing a better job of managing concussion so we're doing a series of workshops around the country to better train doctors to do that," said Lovell.
One such workshop was held at the Marriot in Oakland and was quick to point out that concussions aren't just a football injury and that females have a higher concussion rate than men in sports such as soccer.
