Pro Gay Marriage Bishop Says He Was Snubbed At SF Archbishop Installation
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) - The Episcopal bishop for the Bay Area, who's a strong gay marriage supporter, said he was snubbed when he showed up for San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Joseph Cordileone's formal installation ceremony.
Cordileone is a strong supporter of California's ban on same-sex marriage and The Rev. Marc Andrus had written an open letter this week offering a spiritual home to any Catholics who felt disowned by the archbishop's views.
An Episcopal spokesman said Andrus said he was taken to a basement room with other invited guests, then left waiting as ushers showed everyone but him to their seats in the sanctuary.
San Francisco Archdiocese spokesman George Wesolek chalked it up to a misunderstanding, but Andrus in a blog post rejected the idea.
Cordileone only made glancing comments about marriage. He did, however, make self-deprecating jokes about his recent drunken-driving arrest.
