President Obama Could Face Larger Protest In Short Visit To SF
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – President Obama is returning to San Francisco on Wednesday, just two weeks after his last visit to the Bay Area.
While it will once again be a fundraising trip, this time around, there may be a few more protesters greeting him when he arrives.
The President will be in San Francisco for less than four hours for two private, high-dollar fundraisers in the financial district. His first stop is a finance roundtable meeting right across the street from the former site of the Occupy San Francisco encampment, which is why Nancy Mancias of Occupy and Code Pink will be there to protest.
KCBS' Doug Sovern Reports:
"Shame on the president for coming to San Francisco and meeting with the 0.1 percent," Mancias said. "It's completely ironic that he's having his event by Occupy San Francisco."
But Claremont McKenna government professor Jack Pitney said President Obama is willing to risk the ire of the left because it helps undercut Mitt Romney's argument that he's too liberal.
"There is going to be a negative message, but if I'm running the Obama campaign, I'll take the cash every time," he said.
Pitney said that the President will likely make several more visits to the Bay Area to hit the Democratic cash machine to offset the independent spending on behalf of Mitt Romney, mainly because this election is going to be much more financially competitive than the last one.
The President's last visit included fundraisers and meetings on the Peninsula and in the South Bay.
