Pre-Game Warmup: Harbaugh Says 49ers Are 'Ready'
NEW ORLEANS (KCBS) -- The excitement is in the air less than an hour before kickoff of Super Bowl XLVII at the Superdome in New Orleans between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens.
The crowd for the game is about a 50-50 split between 49ers and Ravens fans, with perhaps a slight edge to those donning the Ravens colors. However, the Niners fans are making a lot of pre-game noise.
49ers coach Jim Harbaugh says his team is "ready" to go after what would be the franchise's sixth Super Bowl win, tying an NFL record. The coach indicated that the team practiced at a "consistently outstanding" level in the days leading up to the Big Game in the Big Easy.
Harbaugh said just when he thought the 49ers couldn't practice any better in recent days, they continued to show improvement.
As the 49ers and Ravens warmed up on the field of the Superdome, Jim Harbaugh and his brother, John, the Baltimore coach traded a handshake, hug and some brief words at midfield while players stretched and got loose.
In his pre-game warmups, 49ers kicker David Akers - who has struggled in the later half of this season - was hitting 50+ yard field goal practice kicks. This could be a good omen for an offense that is already hot under quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Finally, the Harbaugh parents Jack and Jackie told reporters that they already which locker room they'll be going to after the game: the loser's. The parents plan to show their support for either John or Jim and remind him how fortunate he was to bring a team to the Super Bowl.
