Power Restored After Two Separate San Francisco Power Outages
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Power has been restored Tuesday following two separate power outages in San Francisco, according to Pacific Gas and Electric Co.
A downed power line left about 5,100 PG&E customers without electricity in Noe Valley and nearby neighborhoods Tuesday morning.
The outage began at about 9:30 a.m. when a power line came down in the area of 28th and Diamond streets, PG&E spokesman Joe Molica said.
He said PG&E was still investigating what knocked the line down, but that crews were working to make repairs.
Power was restored to the majority of those affected within 45 minutes, and shortly before 1 p.m. only 75 customers remained without power, Molica said.
The 24th Street/Mission BART station lost power for about 10 minutes, BART spokesman Jim Allison said.
The outage "primarily affected the equipment on the tracks," and trains had to be operated in manual mode, rather than automatically, he said. The incident caused delays of about 10 minutes, Allison said.
Molica said PG&E hoped to have final repairs made by 4:30 p.m. No injuries were reported in connection with the downed line.
Earlier Tuesday morning, an outage San Francisco's Pacific Heights neighborhood knocked out electricity to hundreds of people and prompted a brief shelter-in-place warning.
The outage was reported shortly after 10 p.m. Monday near Pacific and Lyon streets and affected 332 customers, Molica said.
Police issued a shelter-in-place warning because of a report of a gas odor, but the warning was lifted after PG&E crews responded and found no leaks or odors during a search of the neighborhood, Molica said.
All customers had their power restored by 4 a.m. with the help of a generator that was brought in to provide temporary power until final repairs have been made, he said.
"Our first priority was to get the lights back on for folks," Molica said.
Molica said the outage appears to have been caused by a failure of PG&E's underground equipment. PG&E is still investigating the incident.
He said Tuesday morning that there was no estimate yet for when the final repairs would be completed.
