Tide Turns Against Prop 19 To Legalize Marijuana
SACRAMENTO (KCBS) - A newly released Field Poll shows a major reversal on Proposition 19, the statewide measure that would legalize marijuana.
The latest poll shows that 49 percent of potential voters oppose the measure, while 42 percent are in favor of it.
"That represents a reversal of opinion from six weeks ago when 49 percent were in favor and 42 percent were opposed," said Field Poll director Mark DiCamillo.
KCBS' Chris Filippi Reports:
He said the measure seems to be losing support across the board.
"You're seeing less support for this among many different subgroups," DiCamillo said. "It's not just one area of the state that's going down. Democrats are a little less enthusiastic, even though a slight majority still favors it. They are ten points lower in their support then they used to be."
DiCamillo said the recent announcement by the federal government that it would still target recreational marijuana use, even if Prop 19 passes, may have dampened support for the proposal.
