Santa Clara Marijuana Dispensary Shut Down
SANTA CLARA (BCN) -- Authorities have shut down a large medical marijuana dispensary in Santa Clara suspected of making illegal profits.
Agents from the Santa Clara County Special Enforcement Team raided the Angel's Care Collective on Friday, seizing an estimated 100 pounds of marijuana and freezers full of pot edibles such as cookies, candy and drinks.
Under state law and guidelines, pot clubs must be nonprofit.
It's not clear what evidence the agents had to suspect Angel's Care was making money.
No one answered the phone at a number listed for Angel's Care on Saturday. An e-mail to the collective was also not immediately returned.
But Dave Hodges, who runs the San Jose Cannabis Buyers Collective, told the San Jose Mercury News he recently spoke to one of Angel's Care's owners and knows the business is in debt.
