Positive Signs For Bay Area Job Seekers
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - A survey released Friday suggests the Bay Area is actually weathering the economic recovery better than other parts of the country. In fact, the "Business Confidence Survey" finds the local job outlook is trending slightly positive.
The quarterly survey is conducted by the Bay Area Council, and has found that small and medium-sized businesses are looking to hire during the second half of 2011.
"It's slightly positive," declared Bay Area Council president and CEO Jim Wunderman of the local hiring prospects. "And especially if you're somebody in the IT industry or if you're in the tourism industry or one of the things like that, and if you're in San Francisco or if you're down in Silicon Valley, you've got a pretty good shot."
However, job opportunities in Alameda, Contra Costa and Solano counties aren't as promising.
Larger companies, he also reasoned, weren't hiring, though some social media and related companies might be.
"Companies like Facebook and Twitter and Zynga and some of the ones in San Francisco and some other places," he outlined. "And that's pretty heavy duty stuff when you think about that kind of intensity in hiring, that's very, very good news for people coming out of college with the right skill sets."
The survey results were based on the responses of 432 CEOs and top executives across the Bay Area.
