Portland Defeats Santa Clara 75-64 In WCC Tourney
LAS VEGAS (AP) ― ReZina TecleMariam scored a career-high 28 points Saturday to lead Portland to a 75-64 victory over Santa Clara as the Pilots advanced to Sundays West Coast Conference semifinals.
Natalie Day had 17 points, Tara Cronin 12 and Nakeisha Brown 10 for the fourth-seeded Pilots (16-14), who will face No. 1 seed Gonzaga (26-4) next.
Alyssa Shoji led No. 5 seed Santa Clara (11-19) with 18 points. Meagan Fulps had 17 and Lena Gipson 10.
Portland shot 50 percent (29 of 58) to Santa Claras 35 percent (20 of 58).
Santa Clara had the edge in 3-pointers, drilling 39 percent (9 of 23) to the Pilots 29 percent (6 of 21).
The Pilots outrebounded the Broncos 43-32 and had a 10-2 edge in fast-break points. Portland outscored the Broncos 32-20 in the paint.
TecleMariam improved on her earlier 23-point high Jan. 29 at Saint Mary's.
