Porsche Takes On Tesla With New Electric Sports Car
(KCBS) -- There's a new luxury, all-electric car ready to hit the market -- but it's not from Tesla.
At the Frankfurt Auto Show on Monday, Porsche rolled out a concept car that's turning heads not only for its sleek styling and speed, but for its battery-powered engine.
Porsche President Matthias Muller touted the Mission E's super fast recharge time.
"When stopping to refuel or refill, because of the revolutionary 800 volt engineering, it will not take you more than 15 minutes," he said.
That compares to about a half an hour for a Tesla supercharger.
The name of the Palo Alto electric car maker was never mentioned at the German auto show but Kelley Blue Book analyst Karl Brauer tells the Los Angeles Times Tesla and Elon Musk demonstrated to other manufactures the appeal of a 300 mile range high-performance electric car.
Pricing and release date for the Porsche Mission E has not yet been announced.
