Police Say Sunnyvale Murder Suspect Lunged At Officers With Knife
SUNNYVALE (CBS SF) -- A Sunnyvale man lunged at SWAT officers with a 12-inch-long kitchen-type knife before he was shot to death Thursday, a police captain said Friday.
The officers went to the entrance to the man's home in the 600 block of San Pedro Avenue after he notified police around 8 a.m. Thursday that he had killed someone in his home, Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Capt. Dave Pitts said.
"They attempted to make contact with him at the front door and he charges at them" with the knife, Pitts said.
The SWAT officers then opened fire on the man and killed him.
The weapon was "one of those big kitchen knives," 12 inches long with a 9-inch blade, Pitts said.
The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office, which removed the bodies of the man and a woman from the home, declined to identify them Friday.
