Police Release Sketch Of Lake Merritt Sexual Assault Suspect
OAKLAND (BCN) -- Oakland police Tuesday released a sketch of a man believed to have robbed and sexually assaulted two women Sunday in the city's Lake Merritt neighborhood.
The attacks happened in the evening hours in relatively secluded areas - one in the 1400 block of Third Avenue and one at East 18th Street and Lakeshore Avenue, Oakland police Officer Holly Joshi said.
Both women were assaulted as they were coming home, Joshi said.
Police believe the attacker in both cases might have been the same person.
The suspect is described as a man in his 20s, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, with a medium build. He was wearing dark clothing and was armed with a weapon.
Residents are advised to stay in well-lighted, populated areas and be aware of their surroundings.
Police recommend that they be particularly alert when getting into and out of their cars, and lock the car doors once inside.
Anyone with information on the crimes is asked to call the Police Department at (510) 238-3641.
