Police detain man with replica firearm in Richmond's Iron Triangle neighborhood
Richmond police arrested the man who sparked a nine-hour neighborhood lockdown Monday by standing on a porch waving around what police believed could've been a firearm.
Officers responded at 7:41 a.m. to the 500 block of Second Street to a report of a man on a porch waving a possible firearm, Richmond police said. Officers were still at the scene three hours later.
At one point, the man went inside and police cleared the scene and the man came back outside. Police said at 10:41 a.m. they were trying to make contact with the man.
Police advised residents within a one-block radius of the home to remain indoors. All other residents were asked to avoid the area.
"Go inside, close and lock all windows and doors. Stay off the phone and do not call 911 unless you need to report a life-threatening emergency," police said in an alert sent to residents.
Police took the suspect into custody at approximately 3:47 p.m. The gun ended up being a replica handgun. Authorities said he lived alone and there was no one else in the residence.
