Police Chase With Stolen Car Ends With Crash Into San Francisco Hydrant
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A stolen vehicle that was pursued by the California Highway Patrol from Modesto ended in a crash in San Francisco's Cow Hollow neighborhood Thursday morning, according to San Francisco police.
The California Highway Patrol pursued a vehicle wanted from an earlier carjacking in Modesto into San Francisco, police said.
"Our Officers observed a vehicle that was doing something suspicious and saw the patrol vehicle and began to flee. The officers were in distance enough to run the license plate. It returned to a vehicle that was carjacked in Modesto," CHP Officer Mike Ferguson said.

Officers lost sight of the vehicle in the vicinity of Van Ness Avenue and Clay Street.
About 3:10 a.m., officers found the vehicle crashed into a fire hydrant near Van Ness Avenue and Union Street, police said.
Moments earlier, the fleeing vehicle side-swiped a 9-Muni bus and a fire hydrant, Ferguson said.
The vehicle was badly damaged with its airbags deployed and the two or three male suspects fled from the scene.
A perimeter was set up and police searched for the suspects, however no suspects were detained.
No injuries were reported, police said.
