2 Arrested Following Richmond Police Chase, Injury Hit-&-Run Crash
RICHMOND (CBS SF) — A wanted gang member and a passenger were arrested after a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured two people in Richmond Tuesday afternoon, a police lieutenant said.
Around 3:30 p.m., undercover officers spotted a known gang member wanted on multiple felony warrants driving on San Pablo Avenue and called for assistance, Lt. Andre Hill said.
When a marked patrol car caught up with the suspect vehicle near McBryde Avenue, the vehicle sped away, prompting a chase.
Police lost the car near the intersection of 13th Street and Coalinga Avenue, Hill said.
Moments later, the officers heard from dispatch about a major injury collision on Fifth Street and MacDonald Avenue near Nevin Park, he said.
Hill said the officers learned that the suspect they had been chasing broadsided a car, leaving a driver and passenger with serious injuries.
The driver, who is an adult, and the passenger, a minor, were taken to area hospitals for treatment, he said.
The suspect and his two passengers exited the car and fled the scene on foot.
Police who were called to the scene caught the driver and one of the passengers with the help of a police K-9, Hill said. The third suspect remains at large.
The two suspects were arrested and taken to county jail in Martinez.
Hill credited witnesses who called police with information that helped lead to the arrests.
The hit-and-run collision came nearly four hours after an unrelated fatal hit-and-run crash on an Interstate Highway 80 off ramp at Richmond Parkway.
