Police Arrest Suspect In Child Gropings At San Leandro Walmart, Target Stores
SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) -- San Leandro police said Thursday they have arrested a suspect who allegedly inappropriately touched children at Walmart and Target stores in the city earlier this week.
The incidents occurred at about 7:45 p.m. Monday at the Walmart at 15555 Hesperian Blvd. and about 15 minutes later at the Target at 15555 E. 14th St.
In each case, the suspect inappropriately touched a young girl at the store and then left the scene.
According to authorities, a community service officer in Berkeley spotted the suspect at a 7-Eleven around 7:30 a.m Thursday. When the suspect drove away, the officer was able to get his license plate.
Police then went to his place of work, a parking garage on the Peninsula where he is an attendant, and was arrested. Authorities said most of the employees at the garage were dressed like the suspect.
"Today when the man was arrested at his place of employment, the detectives arrived finding 20 to 30 other employees all dressed the same. Black shirts, black pants, black shoes and red ties," said Lt. Robert McManus of the San Leandro Police Department.
"The detectives were able to take the photographs as well as the surveillance video that we had, and they were able to quickly identify this person and question him about his whereabouts Monday night," McManus said.
The name of the suspect arrested was not immediately being released Thursday afternoon.
