Police Arrest Suspect In Campbell Bank Robbery
CAMPBELL (CBS/BCN) - A man was arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of robbing a bank in Campbell on Friday evening, police said.
James Gilbert Kellems, 51, of San Francisco, was arrested on suspicion of robbing the First Bank located at 790 E. Campbell Ave., according to police.
The robbery occurred at about 5:15 p.m. Friday, when a suspect entered the bank, said he had a gun, and demanded cash. No gun was ever displayed, police said.
The suspect fled on foot and was last seen in the area of Bascom and Campbell avenues.
Shortly after midnight, police responded to a report of a prowler on El Solyo Avenue, located about two blocks from where the robbery suspect had last been seen.
The description of the prowler matched the description given of the robbery suspect, and when officers responded to the area, they saw a man jumping fences in an attempt to flee. A perimeter was established and he was eventually found hiding in a residential backyard.
The man, identified as Kellems, was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of robbery, burglary and resisting arrest. Police determined he was also wanted by the FBI and U.S. Marshals Service for robbery.
