Police Arrest Driver Who Allegedly Ran Down Bicyclist On Market Street
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- An alleged road rage incident in downtown San Francisco Thursday afternoon left a bicyclist injured and resulted in one arrest, according to police.
Around 4:55 p.m., a woman driving a Hyundai allegedly got into a verbal argument with a bicyclist near Fourth and Market streets, police said.
The bicyclist, a 26-year-old man, then banged on the window of the woman's car, before proceeding to ride in front of the Hyundai. The woman then allegedly ran over the bicyclist, according to police.
The victim suffered a fractured back and lacerations to his pelvis. He was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, police said.
The driver of the Hyundai, an 18-year-old woman, was arrested. Police have not released her identity.
The incident happened on "Bike To Work Day," an annual event held to promote commuting with bicycles that sees a large number of participants in San Francisco and other Bay Area cities each year.
