Police Activity Prompts Lockdown Of San Jose Elementary School
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - A San Jose elementary school was sheltering in place Friday morning because of nearby police activity, a school district employee said.
Students at Robert Sanders Elementary School, located at 3411 Rocky Mountain Drive, have been on lockdown since about 8:45 a.m. because of police nearby trying to apprehend a suspect, according to Lauri Breton, director of student services for the Mount Pleasant Elementary School District.
School staff have been instructed to keep students inside until police say they are done with their investigation, Breton said.
Breton said classroom instruction was continuing and police activity is not occurring on campus.
Two other schools, Ida Jew Academies at 1966 Flint Ave. and August Boeger Middle School at 1944 Flint Ave. were also briefly on lockdown this morning but by 8:45 a.m., police had lifted that order as police activity moved closer to Robert Sanders Elementary, Breton said.
She said no injuries have been reported and that the school district is "being extra cautious."
