Pleasanton University Accused Of Immigration Fraud
PLEASANTON (AP) -- Federal officials are accusing a Pleasanton university of serving as a front for an illegal immigration operation that accepted millions of dollars to obtain student visas for foreign nationals.
In a complaint filed on Wednesday, federal prosecutors call Tri-Valley University a "sham" and accuse its founder, Susan Su, of fraud.
They say the university made false statements to the Department of Homeland Security that allowed hundreds of people—mostly from India—to stay in the United States on student visas.
The Contra Costa Times reports that people on student visas are required to show they are making progress toward completing their degree and attending classes.
Calls to Tri-Valley and a number listed for a Susan Su in Pleasanton were not immediately returned.
