Pleasanton Resident Interrupts Home Burglary
PLEASANTON (BCN) - Police believe that an attempted burglary in Pleasanton on Monday fits into a pattern of such crimes under investigation in the vicinity of the city's sports park.
A resident on Cheryl Circle was in his bedroom at about 10:30 a.m. Monday when he heard his doorbell ring, police said, but the man chose not to respond.
Minutes later, while he was in his second-story bedroom facing the street, a man removed one of the bedroom's window screens and attempted to gain access to the home but was startled by the resident's presence, police said.
The suspect jumped to the ground and fled on foot from Cheryl Circle onto Arthur Drive toward Hopyard Road, according to police. Despite immediately establishing a perimeter and enlisting a helicopter and K-9 in a search, police could not locate the suspect.
Police say the suspect is a white male in his early 20s with short cropped blond hair and a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt and blue jeans, and he wore white socks on his hands as gloves.
According to police, the attempted burglary is similar to several others the department has been investigating over the past several months in the vicinity of the sports park and neighboring areas.
Residents are encouraged to contact police at (925) 931-5100 with any information and to be mindful of suspicious persons or activity in the area. Police recommend that residents lock doors, secure windows, and set alarms when leaving their homes unattended.
