Pittsburg Man In Stolen Car Leads CHP, Sheriff's Deputies On Chase Through Napa County
YOUNTVILLE (CBS SF) -- Napa County law enforcement agencies pursued a Pittsburg man who was driving a stolen vehicle early Sunday morning.
California Highway Patrol officers in Napa tried to stop a Ford Escape around 4 a.m. that was speeding on state Highway 29 at Darms Lane in unincorporated Napa County north of Napa, the CHP said.
The CHP asked for assistance from the Napa County Sheriff's Office and American Canyon Police Department when the Ford's driver sped away at more than 100 mph.
The pursuit went into Napa and American Canyon where police deployed a spike strip that flattened all four tires, the CHP said. The driver continued fleeing until the Ford became disabled on railroad tracks at the end of South Napa Junction Road, the CHP said.
The driver and only occupant of the Ford, identified later as Samuel Garcia, 31, of Pittsburg, ran from the vehicle and jumped a fence to evade arrest by the CHP.
The Sheriff's Office and American Canyon police set up a perimeter, and Garcia continued fleeing when he encountered two CHP officers.
After a short chase, Garcia was handcuffed and arrested and was booked in the Napa County Detention Center for vehicle theft, driving under the influence, resisting arrest and being under the influence of a controlled substance, the CHP said.
